We want everyone to be able to join in – whether you use a keyboard, a screen reader, voice control or large text. This page covers the website rebelsofgaming.com and the Rebels of Gaming app for iOS and Android. We are a gaming clan, not a public authority, but we test regularly ourselves and fix things as soon as we notice them.
On the website
- Keyboard: everything works without a mouse. A “Skip to content” link jumps past the navigation, menus and dialogs close with Escape.
- Visible focus: the element you are on is always clearly highlighted.
- Reduced motion: if “reduce motion” is set on your system, we skip animations and smooth scrolling.
- Dark or light: the site is dark by default. In the footer or your account settings you can switch to a light theme or follow your system.
- Contrast: text reaches a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 in both themes, controls and the focus outline at least 3:1.
- Not colour alone: statuses such as “online” or “in game” are also shown as text or an icon, or read out to screen readers.
- Images: our own images have alternative text, purely decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers. In the media library you can add alternative text to every image.
- Zoom and text size: you can zoom your browser to 200 % and beyond. The layout adapts from 360 pixels wide without sideways scrolling.
- Structure: pages use real headings, lists and form labels; error messages appear as text next to the field. Feedback after an action is shown as a notice that screen readers announce too.
In the app
From app version 0.5.0, the “Rebels of Gaming” app uses your device’s accessibility features. For common tasks – sign-in, home, notifications, messages, members, squads, events, servers, forum and settings – it supports:
- VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android): buttons, switches and lists have clear labels and report their state; notices are announced.
- Voice Control and Voice Access: labels match the visible text, so you can call buttons by name.
- Larger text: the app follows your system text size up to 200 % and beyond; content wraps instead of being cut off.
- Dark interface: the app stays dark throughout, without bright interstitial screens.
- Not colour alone: online status, errors and selection are also shown by shape, icon or text.
- Sufficient contrast: text reaches at least 4.5:1, controls at least 3:1.
- Reduced motion: with “Reduce Motion” or “Remove animations” turned on, animations and cross-fades are dropped; necessary transitions simply fade in.
Known limitations
Not everything is in our hands, and some things are not finished yet:
- Content from members: images in the forum, gallery, news comments or wiki do not always have alternative text. Colours members pick themselves with BBCode do not always have enough contrast.
- Third-party content: signing in with Discord, Steam or Twitch and embedded videos and streams (YouTube, Twitch) come from those services. How accessible they are is up to the providers.
- Rare and technical tasks: the admin area, server console and file editor, wiki editor and gallery upload work with a keyboard and screen reader but are not fully optimised.
- Member map: the map itself is only partly accessible. The member list shows the same information as text.
- Language: content that only exists in German (e.g. some rules or forum posts) is shown in German on the English and French pages.
